Guess Where the Gold Lies [for Coaches, Speakers, Trainers and Experts]

Somewhere in between the free content that you share (blogs, articles, video, etc.) and the paid services that you offer (one-on-one coaching, speeches, seminars, etc.) lies a golden opportunity. And, sadly, it’s an opportunity that most experts will never take advantage of.

In fact, on an inverted pricing pyramid (representing expert products and programs that you might offer) the golden opportunity lies in what I refer to as the “middle zone”. Why? Because audio and video products lie in the middle zone – two of the most lucrative ways for you to package and sell your expertise.

Taking your expert knowledge and perspective and packaging it in the form of a teleseminar, audio CD set, DVD or online video program is just plain smart today. The product-building tools are easier to use than ever before, and the ability to market your audio/video products online (in a big way!) is greater than ever before.

So have your created audio and video programs? If not, what’s holding you back? Most people say that they don’t have the time or the technical ability – or both. I say that if you don’t take the time to learn (besides, the technical part is really a breeze today) that you’re going to be left behind quickly by those who are embracing audio and video as a modality for their expert message.

Take action:

Choose one topic from your expert content – perhaps one of your current programs – then re-work that content into a different mode of packaging. This is what I call duplicating your work, and it’s the easiest way to begin tapping into the gold of the middle zone. Start with an outline, chunk down your content, then simply begin. Record the audio or film the video. It’s really that simple.

My friend really nailed it the other day. I hadn’t seen her in a long time and she asked about my work. When I explained to her that I help coaches, speakers, trainers and experts to use audio, video and the internet to package their work, she said, “Oh, you help people expand their expert empires.” She’s right! That’s exactly what I do.

In fact, there are more opportunities for YOU today than ever before to duplicate your work, multiply your marketing and essentially “clone” yourself through audio and video programs, plus online marketing campaigns that promote your products (and sell them!) 24/7.

TAKE ACTION:

List any of your current products, programs, books, talks, seminars or workshops, and then think about how you might duplicate or expand on that product/program by packaging your content in another any.

Perhaps your signature talk could be recorded and turned into an audio CD set or maybe your book could be expanded into an online video training program.The possibilities are endless and, as my friend mentioned, you’ll be expanding your expert empire – gotta love that!

Why You Just HAVE to Give it Away

The online marketing game has changed in recent years, and the online marketing game for coaches, speakers, trainers and experts (anyone who helps others with how-to information) has changed dramatically! If you’re operating online today you should be giving it away on a consistent basis. Giving what away? Your expert content, of course.

Here are 3 big reasons:

Number 1: Your potential customers are very distrustful of what – and whom – they find online today. If they don’t know you and trust you, they’re probably not going to buy from you. Sharing bits of your expertise in the form of free content that they can learn from or use is some way helps to build trust. 

Number 2: People today expect that to get lots of free stuff online. That’s just the way it is now. In addition to researching any imaginable topic on google, they also routinely sign up for free stuff – blogs, ezines,teleseminars, videos, etc. If you’re not out there generating and giving away free content, they’re going to go somewhere else for it.

Number 3: When you share your unique perspective in free content you not only build trust with potential customers, but you give them glimpses of your paid programs and products. People need to sample your expertise and your unique perspective in order to know that you and your programs are the right fit for them.

Remember, you’re not giving away the whole “pie” when you share free content in a blog, ezine, article, teleseminar, webinar, etc. You’re just sharing little slices – just enough to sample.

Oh .. and one more important point about your free content that you just HAVE to be putting out there. Be consistent .. be consistent … be consistent. That’s how people find you, that’s how they learn to trust you and that’s how they know if your paid programs and products are the right fit for them.

The Real Secret to Your Productivity

Coaches, speakers and experts are bombarded!

From product creation to social media to branding, I just bet you’re constantly having to choose from a plethora of ways to create, campaign and attract more clients. And, of course, you have to have to do all of that while staying focused and productive so that you can grow your business. Whew! What a cycle of stress!

But, sadly, the one thing that all of us really need in order to maintain our productivity – the one thing that should never, EVER be omitted from our productivity plan – is the one thing that is rarely mentioned, let alone practiced. And what’s this one essential thing? It is … that which stirs your soul.

If you’re anything like me, you can easily get lost in the frenzy of getting ahead (especially in today’s world!), all the while forgetting why you want to “get ahead” in the first place. Plus (and I know you’ve experienced this) both your creativity and productivity become stifled.

Your why – those things that stir your soul (big and small) should be the driving force behind your focus, because in addition to filling your life with joy and meaning, these things that stir your soul can increase your productivity. In other words, your brain actually works better when you take time to enjoy life!

Recently, I heard an expert speaking about the importance to take time off and “clear your head” in order to be more productive. He suggested taking a several-day vacation, once every 90 days, in order to focus on the “important” things in your life, re-energize and thus become more productive.

That’s fine, but I have a bit different perspective. I think that we all should be taking time each and every day to embrace the things in our lives that stir our soul. It might even be a part of your daily routine – a specific time each day when you meditate, sip a cappuccino, play with your children or walk the dog. But it’s also important to simply allow the space and opportunity for things to stir your soul, and to be willing to step away from the computer and enjoy a precious moment in your life – right now.

Take action in 3 steps:

  1. Reflect on a stir your soul moment that you’ve recently experienced – something that made you stop and take notice – and be grateful for it. (If you’re having trouble coming up with one, then you’re way overdue!)
  2. Make a decision today to allow space and opportunity for more things that stir your soul to happen. (You might even wish to write them down in a journal.)
  3. Create a productivity plan – a daily routine – that includes time in your schedule for enjoying your life!
